WHAT IS DERMAPEN? AND HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Dermapen is the industry-leading microneedling device, which works as a skin repair treatment to significantly improve the appearance of large pores, fine lines and is an effective acne scar treatment. It can also be an excellent tool to tighten loose skin after weight loss.
It uses tiny needles attached to a pen device to gently puncture the skin, causing a series of traumatic punctures. The skin responds to this by naturally producing collagen and elastin to repair itself.
The collagen and elastin created by micro-needling work to smooth and firm the skin, plumping out deep lines and improving the indented or red appearance of stretch marks or scars making it a popular acne scar treatment.
As Dr Leah Clinics are a doctor-led clinic, the treatment can be enhanced by applying a chemical peel (ÜBER Pro peel) to your skin immediately after your micro needling facial, which allows the chemical peel to work deep into the skin as the channels are open after being punctured by the Dermapen.
Dermapen is suitable for use on the face and body, for both male and female clients. It is less invasive than many alternative solutions, and you can normally return to your daily activities straight away (although you may notice some redness/swelling).
WHAT IS THE ÜBER PRO CHEMICAL PEEL?
This is a chemical peel which is suitable for application immediately after a microneedling facial procedure, ÜBER Pro chemical peel is a versatile formulation of actives that work together for an impressively showing result. HOW MANY DERMAPEN TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Results usually start to become visible within 6 weeks of your initial appointment, full results are 6 weeks after your final treatment session.
For optimum results, a course of 3 – 6 treatments are recommended depending on your skin concerns:
- General skin rejuvenation / large pore treatment – 3 treatments recommended
- Remove fine lines and wrinkles – 6 treatments recommended
- Acne scar treatment or surgical scars – 6 treatments recommended
- Loose skin – 6 to 9 treatments recommended
HOW LONG DOES ONE TREATMENT TAKE?
The Dermapen treatment session itself lasts for around 20 minutes – although this may vary depending on which part of your body we treat. For example, a stomach treatment will take more time than a facial rejuvenation treatment.
IS SKIN PREPARATION REQUIRED?
No, most clients are fine to go ahead with treatment on the day of their appointment without needing to prepare the skin in advance, we do request that clients stop using active products (e.g. those containing retinol, AHA’s or hydroquinone) 3 days before their appointment.
ARE AFTERCARE PRODUCTS REQUIRED?
Yes, you should apply obagi hydrate medical moisturiser and a heliocare medical SPF to your face for at least 14 days following your treatment. You will be able to purchase them in our clinic on the day of your treatment or ahead of treatment via our online shop.
IS DERMAPEN SAFE FOR EVERYONE?
This microneedling treatment is not suitable for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have keloid scarring or are immunocompromised with delayed wound healing.
WILL I NEED ANY TIME OFF WORK?
The Dermapen treatment comes with a very minimal recovery period. You should be able to resume your daily routine almost immediately or within a few hours- although it depends on what depth of Dermapen treatment you have. You may notice some redness or mild swelling, but this should subside within the first 24 hours*.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects are rare, and when they do occur, they seldom last for more than 48 hours. Patients commonly notice some redness post-procedure (similar to sunburn), but this should subside in a short time. Dermapen may trigger herpes simplex in clients who suffer from cold sores; other adverse effects can include scarring and infection.
